A Pneumatic Actuated 3 Piece Design Ball Valve is a three-piece body ball valve fitted with a pneumatic actuator for automated, remote-controlled operation. The three-piece body allows the center section to be removed for easy maintenance without disturbing the end connections in the pipeline. Available made from bar stock, sand casting, or investment casting in materials like cast iron, cast steel, MS, SS 304, SS 316, and SS 316L, built to ASME B16.5 flanged or screwed-end standards. Suited for automated process lines requiring fast, repeatable on-off control, remote or PLC-based operation, and applications where manual operation is impractical, such as batching systems, automated skids, and continuous process plants.
Compressed air supplied to the pneumatic actuator drives a rack-and-pinion or scotch-yoke mechanism, which rotates the ball 90 degrees within the valve body. In the open position, the ball’s bore aligns with the pipe for unrestricted flow. When air signal is removed or reversed, the actuator rotates the ball a quarter-turn to block the flow path. In spring-return actuators, the valve automatically returns to a fail-safe position (open or closed) if air supply is lost, while double-acting actuators require air pressure to move in both directions. The three-piece body can be separated by removing the center section for quick access to the ball, seats, and seals.
