Working of Thermodynamic TD-3 Steam Trap

Condensate flowing into the trap lifts the disc, allowing it to pass through and discharge from the outlet. As hot condensate approaches, some of it flashes into steam due to the pressure drop across the trap, and this flash steam accelerates beneath the disc, creating a low-pressure zone above it. The pressure differential snaps the disc shut, blocking live steam from escaping. As the trapped steam cools and condenses, pressure drops and the disc reopens, restarting the discharge cycle.
